Scotland?s National Walking and Cycling Network (NWCN) comprises Scotland?s Great Trails, the National Cycle Network and Scottish Canals towpaths. Totalling 6,879km in length, these strategic routes are just part of the estimated 84,000km of paths and trails in Scotland.
Since 2015 NatureScot, Sustrans, and Scottish Canals have worked together to deliver an ambitious programme of network improvement as set out in National Planning Framework 3, spending ?30m on improving 625km of strategic walking and cycling routes.

This study builds on the baseline study of 2016 and assesses the economic, social, health and environmental impact of the NWCN through public and business surveys, data from cycle and pedestrian counts, and surveys of users on the NWCN.
